Instruction Day

Yesterday was the annual Bible Instruction Day at Mendon Mennonite Church in Mendon, MA. The day started at 10am and ended around 8pm. There were multiple instruction sessions, singing, devotionals, and two good meals with plenty of time for fellowship. One topic was "The Blessings of Contented Children." Besides making new friends, it was good to see my old friend George from New Bedford and Finny and several of his friends who came down from Cambridge for the morning sessions and lunch.

More on Princes & Judges

I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing.

(from Psalm 146)

Judges & Princes

I'm not really sure how much would really change if the Christian activists got their man (or woman) onto the bench. Are there too many folks who, without realizing it, are placing their trust in "princes?"

The Lord tells us through the Psalmist: It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.

Some friends might disagree, but I don't see where it's our responsibility to fix the moral failings of the U.S.- God is bigger than the nations and he is greater than the "problem" of the changing morality of our country.

Nothing, including a great nation's rejection of Him, happens without God's letting it happen. We may not know why he lets certain things happen, but we do know that it is Him who lets them happen.

Certainly He is not anxious over who will be the next Supreme Court justice and for that reason there should be no anxiety in us, either.

Judges

Sandra Day O'Connor is retiring from the Supreme Court and Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist is eighty years old and seriously ill. Liberals and conservative are gearing up for the coming battle- the battle that will be waged in Washington and the media to determine the nature of the highest court.

Will one side prevail?

Some Christians and Christian organizations are working and praying to bring biblical morality to the Supreme Court. The years ahead will bring issues before the court that are of importance to Christians. And there is always the hope that Roe v. Wade will be overturned somehow.

It's Been a While...

Things have been kind of busy and I haven't given this blog a thought. But I'm back, or at least I will be when I think of something worth saying. Stay tuned.
